I found this great picture at calgarymemories.com, a website that Clarence Patton has put up with his memories of his childhood growing up in the Kingsland area before any development took place. He has some great pictures of old Calgary at his site.
I like this picture the best.
The photo show Patton’s vegetable stall at the Calgary Public Market – circa 1915. Left to right – Ralph, Thomas and Clarence Patton. This market was located close to the old City Hall.
Very cool.
I wonder why the first market disappeared. Once grocery stores started popping up in the city, did people just stop attending the market? What happened and where did it go?
