I don’t know what was funnier – the actual punchline or the fact that the guy couldn’t spell the word ‘dirty’!

Things are a little crazy….

Lots of stuff to get done and only 24 hours to do them all in.

First of all….

Please go check out www.kingslandfarmersmarket.com.  The page takes you to our Facebook Fan page.  If you like what we are trying to do with the KFM (Kingsland Farmers Market or Kentucky Fried Monkeys – take your pick) please become our fan.  Until we have a real webpage for Calgary and the world, the Facebook Fan page is how we are going to get information out to people.  Thanks in advance for being a fan!

I was in Calgary today for an interview with Access TV for Alberta PrimeTime.  I think the discussion went really well.  A long drive for a short interview, but I had some other business in Calgary for the afternoon.  Check out their website http://www.albertaprimetime.com as the video should be posted soon enough.

Day 88

WordPress is messing with me this morning and I have to get to the CFM so my main post is now deleted.  Frustrating…..

I was able to save this from my clipboard though before the post disappeared into the oblivion of the internet.

Lots of media requests this last couple of days. In the last 48 hours, 3 print media have requested interviews about the Kingsland Farmers Market, local food, and the relationship between farmers and city folk. One TV show has invited me on as a guest. Three invites to speak at seminars and conferences within the city of Calgary over the next 30 days. Whew….. it is going to be a busy month.

More news coming soon….

CFM

One vendor from the CFM was concerned how we hadn’t ‘approached’ them about coming to the Kingsland market.  He/She thought that Gert and I were wanting to ‘steal’ and ‘poach’ vendors from the CFM to go to the Kingsland market.  I want to state this publicly for the world to see…..

Gert and I are not interested in disrupting the CFM in any way.  The CFM will be our home until the end of November.  We want/need the CFM to be very successful in the rest of it’s run at the Currie Barracks and then we wish the CFM the best of luck in the future.

Ken and I had a talk about this two weeks ago.  Ken gave me his word that the next few months would be very civil.  I am taking his word on that.  Ken also spoke of this at his Local 201 talk last weekend.   Calgary will have two markets in the south (okay… 3 including Crossroads.  Correction again…. 4 including Blackfoot) for a long time. These markets need to have a good working relationships with each other.  And yes, the CFM has treated Gert and I very nicely since FFWD Weekly broke the story.

The CFM has had some bad press in the past.  Quite a few people think it was undeserved.  I think the Calgary Farmers Market has a great opportunity to show the city of Calgary what kind of a classy organization it is by how it treats the new vendors of the Kingsland Farmers’ Market.

Day 91

What a week.  So much going on that I have no time to blog about it.

A short update…..

Local 101 and Local 201 on the weekend were incredible events.  It was amazing to listen to all the things that different people and groups have going on in Calgary that relate to local food.  Made quite a few contacts and got the feeling that a lot of people are genuinely excited about the Kingsland Farmers’ Market.

Lots of people visiting the website www.ilovealbertafarmers.com.  Quite a few people have downloaded the application form and we can start waiting for the forms to come in.

We developed a new design for what we are trying to accomplish with the market.  Not a logo, but an idea for what we are trying to say to the world.

I Love Alberta Farmers

That is what it comes down to.  Caring about the people who grow your food, and caring about the people who eat your food.

Yes, I know.  Typical male behavior.. unable to say the word ‘love’.

Okay… {deep breath} I love you guys.  Thanks for feeding my family.

*****

We are working on the Year Round Application forms right now so hopefully soon we can get those out.

I am off to do the Edmonton Beef Delivery today, then to the Go Organic conference today and tomorrow where I am speaking about direct marketing.

Things are moving forward…. one day at a time.
