Hoven Farms will be at the Calgary Farmers Market until November 30, 2010. We are excited to be growing great food and feeding our customers through the Calgary Farmers Market.
But after that?
We are not sure yet. We have decided to not go forward with the Calgary Farmers Market in their move. When I looked at the $$ I was expected to put it, measured it against the risk, it just wasn’t worth it.
The big question for me was – Do I want to sign up for another 10 years of the hi-jinx, political bs and bullying that has gone on at the Calgary Farmers Market? Do I want to be on the hook for $80 000 without a guarantee of getting that money back? Do I trust the leadership of the market to be good stewards of the money they are demanding?
No.
No.
And no.
I was about to write that ‘Hoven Farms is not going forward ..’ but that isn’t true. Hoven Farms is not taking a giant step backwards with a 10 year commitment to the Calgary Farmers Market.
Hoven Farms is looking for new opportunities within the city of Calgary to go forward with. If you know of any, please let me know.
If you would like to help build those opportunities and be involved with them, let me know too.

This might be kind of a small venue, but I volunteer with Hillhurst Sunnyside Farmer’s Market and we restarted really small this year but want to make a bigger go of it next year. Perhaps Hoven Farms would be interested in our Wednesday farmer’s market? Or any other vendors for that matter. Unfortunately I haven’t had a chance to go around and talk with anyone yet because I just stepped in to help at the end of this year’s market. If there is interest please contact me.
